1. Get medical care
Seek appropriate medical attention for your injuries. In addition to addressing your immediate health needs, medical records can document your symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, and recommended follow-up care.
2. Report what happened
Tell resort staff, security, or management about the incident and ask whether an incident report can be prepared. If possible, keep the names or identifying information of employees who responded, along with any paperwork or report number you receive.
3. Photograph the area
If you can do so safely, take photos or video of the condition involved in the accident and the surrounding area. Temporary hazards can disappear quickly. A spill may be cleaned, an object moved, or a damaged area repaired before you have another opportunity to document it.
4. Get witness information
Ask for contact information from anyone who saw the accident or noticed the condition beforehand. A witness may later be able to describe what the area looked like or what happened immediately before the injury.
5. Keep records related to the incident
Save medical records, receipts, reservation information, photographs, damaged belongings, and relevant communications. These records may be particularly useful if you continue receiving medical care after your Las Vegas trip.
Some evidence may be held by the resort or another business. Surveillance recordings and certain operational records may not be kept indefinitely. A lawyer can explain whether steps to request or preserve relevant evidence may be appropriate.
